The 3 fencing weapons

The foil is the most physical and mental of the three fencing weapons, and offers the smallest target area to score on.   All points (touches) are scored by the tip of the blade touching the target.

The epee (eh pay) is the heaviest of the three weapons,  scoring with the tip,  and is the slowest in actions, but  also the most challenging as the whole body is the target.

The sabre (say ber) is the lightest of the weapons, and also the fastest.   In addition to scoring touches with the tip of the blade, sabre is the only weapon to add the cut (a hit with the edge of the blade) to score.  Sabre fencers develop the quick reactions the sport requires.

The foil is the base of the other two weapons, and it is recommended that beginning students start with foil classes before beginning epee or saber classes, so they will have a good foundation.
Group Classes  *

The group class Level 1 is designed for 1st time fencers, but is also good for those returning to the
sport after a long absence, who wish to refresh their skills.   Level 1 introduces basic stance
and footwork, 2 attacks and 2 defenses.

Level 2 completes all of the basic foundation actions in fencing and introduces students to fencing with
an opponent.   The class students will only fence with a trainer who will help guide the student
into the correct actions.   The class reviews Level 1 actions and adds more attacks and
             the last 2 defenses.

Level 3 students start bouting (fencing for points) with another student, also will learn to referee and
how to use the scoring box. The class introduces more attacks, defenses and footwork.

Level 4 is for the student who may want to compete, or to just fence for fun.
Introduces more advanced actions for bladework and footwork.

Level 5 is for students wanting to compete or those returning after a short absence to refresh their
skills.  Introduces more complex actions, strategies, and bouting techniques, to prepare the
             student for competition.

Everyone stays in each group level until the instructor promotes to the next level.  The instructor will
promote when they feel the students muscles are ready to handle the actions in the next level.
